The following verses deal with the conversation between Duryodhana, the eldest of the Kauravas and their Guru and Commander, Drona.
On seeing the army of Pandavas, fear creeps into the mind of the wicked Duryodhana. Verse 3: "pasyaitam pandu putranam acarya mahatim camum vyudham drupada putrena tava sisyena dhimata" (3)O teacher! Behold this mighty army of the Pandavas, arrayed for battle by the son of Drupada, your intelligent desciple. Explanation: Drona was the guru to both the Pandavas and the Kauravas. He had imparted the skills and knowledge of warfare to all his disciples impartially. The son of Drupada was destined to kill Drona. Yet the noble Guru, accepted him as his student and imparted all his knowledge to the young disciple as well. Duryodhana thus tries to convey to the Guru, the error he had committed by training the Pandavas and their allies so well. Also, it gives us a glimpse of fear in the mind of King Duryodhana. Verse 4: "atra sura mahesvasa bhimarjuna sama yudhi yuyudhano viratas ca drupadas ca maha rathah" (4)In that army of the Pandavas, there are many heroic archers like Bhima and Arjuna and great warriors like Yuyudhana, Virata and Drupada. Explanation: Duryodhana knew the strengths of Arjuna and Bhima. He was aware of other great warriors in the army of the Pandavas. He reminds his Guru and the Commander of his army, Drona, of the great warriors in the opposite camp. Go To Page: 1
