Finding Stress Funny

I found a little secret to managing stress. It's called having or using your sense of humor. Laughter is great medicine. In the old sitcom "M*A*S*H," Hawkeye was a constant prankster and comedian. He often said it was his way of coping with the unbearable situation in which he was surrounded. Recently, I was in a very serious accident -- one that could have ended my life. While I was laying on the ground waiting for someone to find me, to control myself, I started finding things that were funny in the situation. Almost an hour later, when I was found, the girl that was stayed with me had no idea what to do to "comfort" me. As it turned out, I was the one giving her comfort. I was cracking one joke after another. She was laughing so hard that she had tears streaming down her cheeks. She later told me that had I not kept her laughing, she would have become hysterical. I started laughing at her and explained that because she was there and I could crack jokes, I actually made the situation easier on myself. It is also a known fact that people with the profession of comedian live longer than any other profession. Find the humor in any situation (no matter how obscure the humor may be) and I promise you that you will get through it a lot easier. If you can't find something funny about the situation you're in, remember a funny situation and work from that. Find the humor in any situation and your stress will be reduced. It will also make you a more enjoyable person to be around. People like being with those who make it enjoyable. A crisis or a loss can sometimes bring out the worst in people. With humor, the best in people usually come forward.
