Thrifty Pleasures - Winter
at him and replied, with just a hint of impatience in her voice,
"Because they're fun, Dad."
Fortunately for Dad, he kept his mouth shut after that. I like to think his daughter's words reminded him, as they did me, that, especially for school-age children, reading is not a competitive event. And that reading something just for the fun of it is maybe what got us reading in the first place. And has been giving us countless hours of pleasure ever since.
