On the other hand, the computing field has made such great advances in such a short time, many potential buyers are fighting an almost irresistible urge to just wait and see. Who knows what great technology is just lurking around the corner? Will your purchase be obsolete before the ink is dry on your sales receipt? (Like I said, staying rational can get a little tricky.)

For us, the final decision won't be an easy one. I'll be compiling my own list of excuses for some time to come. And I'll probably be gnawing on it right up until I lay down the money. After that though, I'll probably be so fed up with the whole process that I'll avoid computing purchases until I've forgotten any unpleasantness.

And by then, I figure, it will probably be time to do it all over again.
