Virtual Volunteers

There are many more paying programs online, but most don't offer a direct donation option. That might make things a little trickier, since you will actually hold the money in your hands before you make your donation. So the giving might not be so painless. On the bright side, however, it does give you more donation options; instead of donating to a national charity, you can direct your donation to a local organization. If you're new to the concept, it's a good idea to do a little research and find the programs that you will enjoy using.

There are other ways to donate some cash as well. Shop4Charities says it will donate a portion of the purchase price to fight world poverty and hunger when you buy something at their site. Currently they have only one charity involved, but their website says they hope to add more in the future. And until October 23, 2000 you can direct 50 cents to one of seven non-profit organizations by sending a SuiteCard here at Suite 101.

Thrifty folks aren't selfish. We just want to use our resources wisely. And a donation of spare time, energy or money to the worthwhile charity of our choice is possibly one of best investments we could make.
