Plant Selection: Picking your Foliage Friends


to the mature height of each plant, since few things are more annoying than having a 6 foot Joe Pye Weed blocking the view of your low-lying, bright-colored Cardamine 'Lady's Smock'.

There are plenty of sun-loving plants to choose from, and quite a few for those working in partial or full-shade. Want to work with plants of a particular color? There are pale, white garden plants, blue, lavender and purple mixes, bright reds, yellows, and pinks. Maybe you're looking for drought-tolerant plants in particular, or at the other extreme those which need a particularly wet place?

For the truly lazy, or folks just in a hurry, you can always rely on a pre-designed plan for your foundation garden, a sunny border, a small wildlife attractant, or moonlit container plants to greet night visitors to your door.
