An Alluring Bed and Breakfast

© Vickie Ferguson

Recently, my brother and sister-in-law enjoyed a lovely weekend getaway to one of their favorite destinations, North Carolina, and discovered The Lodge on Lake Lure. A truly lovely bed and breakfast nestled in the woods, the lodge offers vacationers relaxation and privacy along with large amounts of southern hospitality, grace and charm.

Lake Lure is located in Lake Lure, NC approximately 26 miles from Asheville. A very short drive If you're planning a day trip to visit the magnificent Biltmore House estate.

My brother, Rob and my sister-in-law, Carolyn, were so impressed with the lodge they called just so they could describe it to me in detail.

They were very impressed with their rooms. Their suite was richly decorated with antiques and exquisite color coordinated linens and in the bedroom there was a huge Jacuzzi. Not a small whirlpool/bathtub attachment, a full-sized Jacuzzi hot tub! After hiking up and down the mountains all day, this was an especially welcomed treat.

The dining accommodations were equally as pleasing as their rooms. The atmosphere at the lodge was described as elegant yet warm and allowed fellow travelers to mingle before dinner in a lovely room appointed with more antiques and overstuffed sofas. Their meal was served amid soft lighting and music and the in-house chef delighted their taste buds with scrumptious food and exemplary service.

Depending on the time of year you visit, the sixteen-room lodge offers plenty of entertainment from boating and fishing to hiking and horse back riding.

If you're interested in a quiet, romantic and out of the way place that offers elegant accommodations with magnificent views, roaring fireplaces and bubbling Jacuzzis, then the Lodge on Lake Lure is the perfect place.

Take advantage of one of their special packages such as the upcoming Valentine's Romance Getaway Weekend available February 14 through 16. This getaway offers two nights of accommodation, full breakfast, candlelit dinner and chocolate covered strawberries in celebration of Valentines Day.

If you can't make it in February, their Winter Wonderland Travel Package, available now through April 30, 2003, includes admission for two to the Biltmore Estate and Chimney Rock Park. The package includes a full breakfast each morning and one or two night accommodations. Check their website for pricing and additional information.

The Lodge exudes a gentle ambience of times past when you could just relax and enjoy the splendor of the countryside and never be hurried. If you're looking for a place where time is not an issue then Lake Lure is definitely the place to enjoy your solitude.
