Magnolia Place Inn

June is nearly over, but we still have July and August to make vacation plans and to discover a "special" place that will make your time even more memorable. I decided a little trip down south, to the beautiful and historic city of Savannah, Georgia, might fill the bill.

Savannah is absolutely one of the most breath taking cities to visit. Besides being full of southern hospitality, grace, and charm, the city boasts magnificent gardens, renovated homes of a bygone era, is rich in history and is very near the Atlantic Ocean and nearby Tybee Island.

For your enjoyment and entertainment, there are carriage rides throughout the city, historic walks and tours, museums, fine restaurants boasting excellent seafood and a touch of grandeur not found easily in today's world.

Located right in the heart of the historic district and next door to the Historical Society you'll find the very elegant bed and breakfast known as Magnolia Place Inn, a fine example of Victoria architecture built in 1878.

The available rooms, thirteen in all, are all beautifully decorated and the majority has fireplaces and Jacuzzis. When selecting your room, keep in mind the courtyard rooms are at least 10 degrees cooler than their counterparts. These rooms originally comprised the kitchen area. The parlor level rooms boast 14-foot ceilings with one of the rooms originally being the dining room with a dumb waiter to the kitchen below and the balcony rooms have 12-foot ceilings with windows you walk through from your room to the balcony. Each room contains examples of fine antiques, polished wood floors, many with views of Forsyth Park and an abundance of peace and tranquility. The staircase from the parlor to the balcony is a work of art unto itself.

A full complimentary breakfast is included each morning and can be served on the veranda, garden or parlor, your choice, where you can overlook the park while enjoying your morning coffee or tea.

In the evening, you'll find your bed covers turned down and a special treat placed on your pillow.

For families who need extra room or for those who prefer a more private residence or are on an extended stay, the inn also offers accommodations in two row houses. The Bormes Row House and the Lehner Row House each has two separate bedrooms, private bath and full kitchen for your convenience. A two-day minimum is required for these residences.
