A Review - Cabin on the Lake

Last month I wrote about a lovely bed and breakfast located in Lake Helen, Florida. While writing it on my lunch break at work, one of my co-workers saw the picture of the b&b and asked me about it.

She thought it was so lovely and when I said, "it's about an hour away", she jotted down the phone number and immediately called to see about making reservations. Honest, it happened that fast!

Well, at the end of the day, Thursday, Kathy was in a "holding" pattern as to whether or not a suite was going to be available for the upcoming Labor Day weekend. The next day, Friday, more phone calls were being placed and it happened that another couple wanted to stay on Saturday night only and Kathy and her husband, Cameron, aka Hon, had wanted Sunday night only. The manager had been concerned about splitting the weekend up but all turned out well for everyone and the reservations were made.

On Monday morning, while Kathy and I took our break and walked to the duck pond, I asked her about the cabin and their overall experience. This is Kathy's account of their stay.

They left Tampa Sunday morning and took their time driving up to Lake Helen. The weather was beautiful and they were in no hurry and enjoyed the leisurely drive.

The overall cabin was beautiful and well maintained and their room was lovely. They stayed in the Island room which was decorated in a decidedly tropical flair.

Kathy also notes there are a large assortment of books, covering many genres, that are provided for the guests enjoyment.

The cabin sits beside the lake and, of course, fishing and canoeing are perfect entertainment. Kathy said they have fishing equipment available for those who want to try their hand at snagging a few and you can take the canoe out for a spin around the lake. There is no charge for the use of either the fishing equipment or the canoe.

Later in the day, Kathy and Hon drove into the city of Deland, a small, quaint city where you feel as though you've stepped back in time, and noted that there are many antique shops to be explored, a movie theatre playing the most current release and several excellent family restaurants with delicious food to be enjoyed.

After dinner and a movie, they returned to the cabin and enjoyed a very restful evening and thoroughly relaxed and savored the peace and solitude that surrounds the cabin.
