El Palacio de San BenitoRecently I received a request to add a link to my Bed & Breakfast page. I'm always very appreciative of proprietors asking for a link to their place of business and so I went out on the net to take a look at this B&B for myself. What I found was a truly magnificent and exquisite lodging. El Palacio de San Benito, http://www.palaciodesanbenito.com/englis... is located in the village of Cazalla de la Sierra in the province of Seville about 75km from the capital of Andalusia. Originally built at the end of the 15th century, it has recently undergone extensive restoration and renovation along with new construction utilizing materials from another palace to keep the structure true to it's origins. I suggest taking the virtual tour of each and aspect of the palace from the Library with an atmosphere of the Victorian age and its Cararra marble chimney to the Music room which houses a Erad piano. The sights you will see are absolutely beautiful and include rich mahogany furniture, Spanish ceramics, and stairways covered in tiles from the 16th century, to name just a few. The richness of the surroundings and the historical "feel" of El Palacio de San Benito permeate each and every picture. The rooms themselves are furnished with 17th and 18th century pieces as well as engravings from that time period. The very charming Habitacion de los Grabados, the Engravings Room, features 90 of these engravings. Habitacion del Militar displays a fine collection of 19th century Japanese art. Some rooms feature a fireplace and private garden area with a marble fountain while the Habitacion del Torero offers a view of the village bullring. The largest of the rooms is Habitacion de los Novios, the room of the newlyweds, and features a pair of 19th century bathtubs! When you finish the virtual tour be sure and click on the Gallery for additional pictures many showing the beautiful tile and mosaic work found at the palace. Activity wise there's much to do in Cazalla de la Sierra as you step back in time and savor the rich history and architecture of the area. For the sportsman, there is trout fishing and game hunting on both large and small reserves. Horseback riding is encouraged as you meander the trails of Sierra Morena. This natural park offers tropical lushness and the gentle cascading of waterfalls as you make your way through the park. If hiking is your pleasure, excursions are organized offering a variety of routes you can experience while trekking through the Sevillian north mountain range.
