Ski the Thompson Okanagan


Sun Peaks Resort
Located 45 minutes north of Kamloops, this resort encompasses three mountains. It has full skiing facilities plus specialties like snowmobiling, dog sledding, sleigh rides, ice skating, snow shoeing, snow boarding and telemark skiing. For alpine skiing, approximately 60% of the runs are at an intermediate level. The ski village has shops, restaurants and accommodations.

Silver Star Mountain Resort
Situated 12 miles northeast of Vernon, skiers will enjoy their visit to this full service resort. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, there are snowmobile tours, sleigh rides, dog sledding, snowshoeing, tube rides, ice skating, indoor swimming and massages. There are guides on hand to instruct you on how to drive a snowmobile or steer a dog sled. In the evening, nothing is better than going on a sleigh ride and then enjoying a Swiss fondue in the restaurant.

Phoenix Mountain
Only 18 miles west of Grand Forks, this area is run by the Phoenix Alpine Ski Society. Although very small, this area features good alpine skiing, snow boarding, and cross-country skiing. The highlight of this resort is the groomed and ungroomed trails situated in the rolling hills. The advanced and intermediate runs have T-bar lifts and the beginner slope has a tow rope for getting up and down the hills.

Mount Baldy
Located 25 miles from Oliver, this is a fun place for the whole family. There are annual events such as carnival day, fun races and ladies day. This mountain has gained a reputation as being the best place for snowboarding. There is downhill skiing and cross-country skiing on ungroomed trails. Ice-skating is available but guests must bring their own skates. Accommodations and services can all be found in Oliver.

Harper Mountain
Situated 14 miles from Kamloops, this is one of the few family-operated resorts. It is a family oriented resort with opportunities for downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Due to its location in the higher mountain ranges, the snow is very powdery which is every skier's dream.

Crystal Mountain
Only 15 miles from Kelowna, this is a well-used mountain by the locals. In addition to downhill skiing, there are great snowboarding facilities. There is over 25 miles of trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The hottest new snow sport is snowblading, which is just like inline skating on the snow. The blades can be rented at the hill. Instructions are available from qualified instructors.
