In a recent article posted at Canada.com, Condé Nast Traveler magazine named Victoria the top city in the Americas.

This is the time of year to think about next year's vacation and Victoria is one place you should put on the top of your list. Let me help you get acquainted with Victoria through my course at SuiteU.

Victoria Canada: A Pacific Paradise

In my course, you will find out just why Victoria is a popular tourist destination. The downtown area has a taste of England with stone buildings, double-decker buses and shops featuring imported goods as well as works from local artisans.

The ocean is at your doorstep with miles of beaches strung along the shoreline. Besides beachcombing, tourists enjoy golfing and whale watching. Experience Canadian hospitality and the beauty of the West Coast!

One of the world's top travel magazines has given a big boost to both Victoria and Vancouver Island.

Condé Nast Traveler magazine named Victoria the top city in the Americas and Vancouver Island was ranked as the top North American island at the magazine's annual Reader's Choice Awards gala at New York City's Guggenheim Museum on Friday.

Victoria scored an overall rating of 80.7 out of 100. B.C.'s capital also received a 96 rating for ambience -- second in the world only to Carmel, Calif.

Vancouver came in second with a score of 79.6, while Quebec City took third for a Canadian sweep of the top three places.

"This is a very prestigious award," said Tourism Victoria president and CEO Lorne Whyte. "Being awarded as the best city in the Americas confirms that American travellers recognize that Victoria is a world-class vacation destination. Winning this award will only help to increase the destination's profile and draw more visitors to this spectacular city."

The cities were rated on numerous criteria, including ambience, friendliness, culture/sites, restaurants, lodging and shopping.

For the first time, the magazine, which has a readership of over two million, divided cities into four geographic divisions: the Americas (Canada, Central America and South America), Asia/Pacific, Africa/Middle East and United States.

Vancouver Island edged out Cape Breton, N.S., for its second straight award as the best North American island. Kiawah, S.C., was third.

"We are so blessed by the environmental diversity of Vancouver Island, from city to unsurpassed outdoor experiences," said Tourism Vancouver Island's CEO, Dave Petryk. "And we are delighted that the readers of this prestigious magazine have acknowledged Vancouver Island as a favourite vacation destination."
