Campbell River - The Salmon Capital of the World

Bus
There is regular scheduled bus service through Island Coach Lines, which covers Victoria right up to Port Hardy. If coming from the mainland, you can connect up with Island Coach Lines via Greyhound (travels from Vancouver to Nanaimo) or Pacific Coach Lines (Vancouver to Victoria). You also get a fantastic ferry ride.

Ferry
There are several BC Ferries that take you to Vancouver Island. All of them offer car and passenger service:

  • Horrseshoe Bay (north of Vancouver) to Nanaimo The trip is 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • Tsawwassen (south of Vancouver) to Duke Point (south of Nanaimo) and it's a 2-hour trip.
  • Tsawwassen (south of Vancouver) to Swartz Bay (Victoria, at the south end of the Island). It is a 1 hour 35 minute trip.
  • Sunshine Coast (Powell River) to Comox and it's a 1 hour and 15 minute trip.
  • Prince Rupert to Port Hardy (Inside Passage route) - approximately 15 hours
  • Bella Coola and Port Hardy (Discovery Coast Passage route) - approximately 12 hours

    From Washington State:

  • The Victoria Clipper from Seattle to Victoria. This is passenger service only.
  • MV Coho from Port Angeles WA to Victoria. Car and passenger service.
  • Washington State Ferries has service for vehicles and passengers between Anacortes WA and Sidney (Victoria) BC.

    Where possible, be sure to make reservations. These are all heavily traveled routes.

    Boat
    There is a wide range of moorage and facilities in Campbell River. It is recommended to have up to date tide tables and marine charts in order to be familiar with the waterways.

    Air

  • Air Canada has regular scheduled service from Vancouver International Airport to Campbell River. Car rental is available.
  • WestJet operates from Calgary Alberta to Comox, which is 45 minutes south of Campbell River. Car rental is available.
  • Kenmore Air offers floatplane service in the summer from Seattle to Campbell River and other popular summer destinations not serviced by regular airlines.
  • Several private helicopter and small plane operators fly out of Campbell River on a charter basis. They can be hired for sightseeing or to remote locations.

    Whether you are an avid fisherman or a curious tourist, Campbell River is a worthwhile place to visit. There are many world class resorts and hotels where you can make it home base for day trips to other parts of Central and North Vancouver Island. There
