Sometimes Stars Leave Behind Great MysteriesSometimes Stars Leave Behind Great Mysteries It is said to have all started with the sighting of a star by traveling wise men and shepherds tending their flocks in the night. They traveled miles to pay honor to their King, the one who was said to be annointed above all others, the savior of mankind. Prophecy had foretold his coming and they wandered through the night searching for the miracle child born in the humble wooden berths of a manger. That he was born is well known, and that he also left an impact on those that he met has become accepted in even the most skeptical of academic circles. Historians have come to accept the validity of the existence of Jesus. After this known fact and some of the references found in various sources concerning his life, the rest is speculation. Examples abound that still cause scholars bewilderment concerning the life of Jesus. Questions such as, "Where was Jesus during the missing 10-14 years of his life?" "Was he a humble carpenter honoring his mother and father ?", or "Did he seek the careful soul-filled footsteps of the traveler; seeking a yet undefined journey ?", "Could he have traveled to India or Tibet ?", "Did Jesus perhaps preach sayings that have been lost in the annals of antiquity ?", or "Is the Bible all the memories that we have of him ?" Part of the fun of Christianity is in pondering the nature of such questions. We, scholars and laymen alike may never know the answers to these questions, but joy can often spring from the study of the unknown. It turns out that there is still a great deal to be learned about the life of Jesus. Many attempts to learn about the past have often been stopped due to the sensitive nature of subjects concerning the life of Jesus. In the past, many scholars were accused of heresy for simply asking questions or performing research that did not agree with the acceptable position taken by the status quo. Often, scientists such as Galileo were taken to trial for their proposed scientific theories that did not agree with the teachings of the church. As the modern age moves slowly into the era of the postmodern, scholars have been given the intellectual freedom to ask the tougher questions. This is not to say that every controversial theory is correct; but it does mean that scholars should be given the freedom to study such theories and test them them through the scientific method; perhaps bringing them to a closer more objective understanding of the truth. Maybe, the true nature of Jesus and his life can be seen.
