I received the following e-mail from a disgruntled Bean Lovers site visitor recently. This New Englander gentleman noticed that we had only two baked bean recipes in the articles section of the site. The first is my wonderful Best Baked Beans in the World recipe, and second is a fun and admittedly off-the-wall recipe for baked beans with Dr Pepper in them. Neither is your classic baked beans. This seems to have irritated him, and, I admit, rightly so. In my pitifully weak defense, may I point out that the recipe links on the site include dozens, nay, hundreds, of Boston Baked Beans recipes? That doesn't help? Hmmm. Well, let me share the e-mail with you first, then we'll talk about what we need to do about this shockingly inappropriate omission of Boston Baked Beans from a prominent position on this site. OK? Here are the gentleman's comments, between the lines below. (I was tempted to clean up the grammar and punctuation, but I think leaving it as is adds to the flavor and character of the missive.)
Where did you come from? No boston baked bean's? Every kind of bean recipe, but no boston baked bean's , and brown bread. You people ough't to be ashamed of yourselv'es, the first thing you should have is boston baked bean's, but you do not have a true recipe of it, you got all this stuff that became offspring's to the most famous bean recipe on the planet, but not the true recipe. How do I know, I have it, and have had it for 50 yr's, you go to boston with all this crap, and you'll be missing in action. Boston baked bean's is done one way, and one way only, and with b&m brown bread which go's with the original recipe for over 100 yr's. Give me a break, start a ice cream recipe or something other than this insult to any true new englander like myself. Somebody want's boston baked bean's and come's on this site, and get's recipe's from evry slug in the world, but not the true recipe of boston baked bean's, and brown bread. Now that's a shame. I consider myself well and thoroughly told off. So, friends, what shall we do about this problem? I have access to hundreds of purported true recipes for Boston Baked Beans, though I admit that none of them mention anything about B&M brown bread. (Anyone know about B&M brown bread?)
