Many bean lovers want to know how to make a healthier, lower-sodium version of the popular, canned ranch-style beans that you buy at the grocery store. Here's what foodlocker.com says about Great Western Foods' Ranch-Style Beans brand: "When a can is flung open, out pours the flavor."
There are a number of recipes for ranch-style beans, but they all use canned beans and canned tomatoes and such, all of which usually have too much salt. However, we can use dry beans and soak them overnight and then cook them to end up with the equivalent of canned beans, only without the salt. It's more work, but it's cheaper and healthier. You can figure all this out from the information here, but the standard can of beans is about 16 ounces of beans, or 1 pound. It also usually fills about two cups. To get two cups of cooked beans, start with two-thirds of a cup of dry beans. You can also buy low-sodium canned tomatoes, though you might have to look around a bit to find them. So, if you really need to convert these to low-sodium versions, it can be done. If not, however, you can really make some delicious pots of beans with these recipes. Go To Page: 1
