Kaslo, British Columbia

SSMoyie

While waiting for a tour of the SS Moyie, you may wish to swim from the shores of the park adjacent to the sternwheeler. For those brave enough, a climb up the old dock pillars leads to a hair- raising leap into the deep waters below. Personally, a quarter of the way up was high enough for me! It was a lot of fun watching other younger and more courageous souls.

Kaslo has a number of interesting and unique stores to visit, and, some very friendly and cozy restaurants. A camera is a must in order to capture some of the local landmarks such as the City Hall built in 1898.

There are a variety of accommodation options in the area. The Chamber of Commerce Website has links to campsites, motels, hotels and B&B’s.

Close to Kaslo are many interesting and exciting things to do and see. Cody Caves, where one has the opportunity to see stalagmites and stalactites and go “spelunking”, Ainsworth Hotsprings with it’s hot spring caves (I recommend it!), bird watching, mountain biking…. and much more. For a list of 56 Things to Do in Kaslo, check out the Kaslo Links on this site!

I hope that you can fit a visit to Kaslo into your Kootenay holiday! I found it to be one of the more unique communities in this area.
