Kimberley possesses some further features that add to its charm. Particularly unusual are the city's fire hydrants. Most of them have been individually painted to depict different characters, many of them tied to Kimberley's main Bavarian theme.

Canada's Largest Cuckoo Clock has a home in the Platzl and every hour Happy Hans, (the City's mascot) appears with a yodel, delighting children and adults alike.

During the summer months, a trip on the Bavarian City Mining Railway is a must! The narrow gauge mining train runs between downtown Kimberley and the Kimberley Alpine Resort. The nine-kilometre ride includes a spectacular view of the Rockies and runs past the original entrance to the mine, antique mining eqipment, and, a hundred-year old school house. Don't forget your camera!

A number of events take place during the year in Kimberley. Event calendars available on line at www.travelkimberly.com Among such events are the International Old Time Accordion Championships, The Torque Baby Mountain Bike Race, Julyfest, Oktoberfest and a variety of Alpine Ski events.

The Kimberley Alpine Resort offers recreational activities year round. In winter the downhill runs and cross-country trails are popular with tourists from many countries. In the summer months the whole family can enjoy the thrills of the Alpine slide, the bumper boats, mini-golfing, mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding.

Not sure what gifts to take back for friends and family? Kimberley gift stores have a great variety of handcrafted gifts made by local artisans. You will be sure to find something for the person who has everything! While admiring the local handiwork, check out the hand-carved murals that are currently under construction and will be displayed at the Sullivan Mine Interpretive Centre later this summer.

For those that love to admire nature there are many trails surrounding Kimberley and the adjoining town of Marysville. Waterfalls, mountain scenery and a variety of bird and animal life make for pleasant hikes and wonderful photographic experiences. Maps are available that show the many trails in the area. In addition there are organised walks and hikes. For information take a look at:

In June, July and August, a visit to Cominco Gardens is a pleasurable experience for the gardening enthusiast. Forty-eight thousand flowers burst into bloom with the added bonus of spectacular mountain views. A teahouse is a pleasant place to end a walk around the gardens and is situated in what was once the gardener's residence.

With three golf courses that have spectacular views, visitors to Kimberley in the summer should bring their clubs. Trickle Creek Golf resort has been awarded a 4.5* rating by Golf digest and the view from the 11th tee box will have golfers pausing to admire. Kimberley Golf Club is situated high over St. Mary's River and ten minutes away is the Way-Lyn Ranch and Golf Resort. Take a camera for more magnificent views from their 4th and 6th tees!
