It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year - Christmas Market Tourism in Germany

December, and winter in general, can be a splendid time to take advantage of special low season rates and deals. Hotels, from the largest corporate chains to the smallest family run guesthouse, want to keep their beds filled, and they will offer special rates or extended stay specials for winter travelers. Typically, three days stay or more qualifies for special discounted rates. Even I was skeptical at first when I began searching for accommodations in Vienna. A little patience and a lot of web browsing proved that it is possible to stay in the most attractive and expensive of cities for relatively little.

Indulge in the Everyday
Sitting back and relishing the everyday-ness of life in Germany is great fun. Though the holidays come but once a year, it is fun to both participate and watch people prepare for their end of year celebrations. Strolling through holiday markets is just one way to catch a glimpse of this end of the year energy. Fewer tourist crowds in winter also allow a traveler to linger at lunch just a bit longer, or see more than an art museum's greatest hits. The cold weather may keep you more indoors, but this can be a great opportunity to people-watch in a café.

Whatever your plans are this winter and beyond, I wish you all the best for a safe and happy New Year!
