A Brief Encounter...As in Very Brief - an introduction to Bamberg and Franconia (Germany) for visitors - Page 2

We learned that Bamberg, although in Franconia, is known for it's beer rather than it's wine. Four distinct varieties of beer are still brewed within the city. The most famous beer, best enjoyed (as I subsequently learned) in one of the Schlenkerla (traditional beer cellar or inn) is Bamberg's smoky beer. It's a meal in and of itself, with a fully and hearty flavor that tastes like no other beer in Germany. Believe me, I have learned a thing or two about beer.

Bamberg makes up one point of triangle in the Franconian region, with Würzburg to the East and Nürnberg to the South, comprising the other points. Bamberg is easily accessible from almost all directions with direct Autobahn connections on the A70 and A73. The Nürnberg airport is 60 km away, and the Frankfurt Airport is 200 km away. If you want to get to know the Franconian region, then Bamberg is a must.
