India in South Africa :Team Line ups

Lets accept it; we Indians are way down on the ladder when it comes to quality as in a collective sense of words.

And it is amazing as to why? Why inspite of the world's best talent we perform the way we do. Its been over 30 years since we last won a test series abroad. There has been nothing for the fans to cheer about other than the world cup.

Many cricket coaches put a lot of thought on the team line up, something in which we do not invest.

When a Test line up is being readied the basic format is something which we always elude. Old timers have always had faith in the 5+5+1, but new age cricket has seen 6+4+1 and sometimes even 7+3+1. These numbers refer to batsmen, bowlers and wicket keepers.

But in all seriousness you do need 5 quality bowlers to win a test match. And out of 5 good bowlers you can count 3 to perform.

Take a look at our line up now. Srinath is no doubt the best Test Bowler we have now. Prasad is more of a economical bowler rather than a aggressive one. A definite no-no for tests. But then in India who gives a damn? Nehra, Zaheer are good prospects and our wonderboy in pace - Agarkar. this kid has so much potential which is hard to fathom. All we need is more consistency from the selectors to ensure that he stays in the team.

Anil Kumble. Words fail me the same way he does abroad.

I know I sound biased because I probably am. But seriously what does Kumble have to show for his success abroad. He is horrible. And if you are thinking of the 10 wicket haul - remember it was in India.

Harbhajn Singh is a fantastic bowler. He has the capability and the age to do it. So if we line up our bowlers Nehra, Srinath, Zaheer, Agarkar and Singh. This is an ideal line up for Test matches in South africa.

Srinath and Agarkar can open to ensure a total all out attack. Zaheer and Singh can then join forces to poke more holes. And as the ball gets old Nehra and Srinath can come back to get some reverse swing going. With the ball about 50 - 60 overs old. Harbhajan can be given an extended run with the ball to ensure that wickets tumble at the other end.
