Knowing Your Skin Type:
To find your skin type clean your face thoroughly, then rinse well and pat dry. Allow it to rest for two hours and then press a tissue onto our face. If the tissue comes away full of grease, you have oily skin, if there is grease on only parts of the tissue, you have combination skin, and finally if the tissue comes away with no oil wash your face with soap and water. If your skin feels supple and smooth afterwards, it is normal, if it feels taut, it is dry. Now that you know the categories of skin creams and what type of skin you have let's get to the fun part, making your own skin creams and lotions. You will be the envy of everyone in your town when they see how beautiful your skin can be for half of what they are paying at there expensive department stores. Equipment for Making Your Own Skin Creams: This list is meant to be a guide only, avoid using aluminum, copper, and non-stick pans as they can affect the ingredients beneficial properties. * Heatproof glassware or enamel double boiler. * Wire Whisk * Measuring Spoons and Cups * Wooden Spoons * Clean dark glass bottles and jars with airtight lids * Labels and Pens Three Steps to Making Your Own Skin Cream: * Melt the waxes and gently heat the oils, slowly pour the oils into the waxes beating constantly. * Warm your scented waters to the same temperature as the waxes and oils and add this gradually to the wax and oil mixture, beating all the time. Leave to cool. * When cool and creamy, beat in any essential oils that you would like to add. Spoon into prepared jars and label. Skin Creams and Lotions for Oily Skin Lemon Cleansing Cream: Lemon has a reputation for clearing greasy skin and smoothing wrinkles, as well as having a mildly antiseptic quality. * 1 tbs. beeswax * 1 ½ tbs. petroleum jelly * 3 tbs. mineral oil * 1 tsp. witch hazel * l tbs. fresh lemon juice, strained * 1/8 tsp. borax * 6 drops essential of lemon 1. Melt the beeswax and petroleum jelly together over a low heat. Warm the mineral oil, then gradually add it to the wax mixture, beating for 3-5 minutes.
