Natural Teeth and Gum Care


Most commercial toothpastes contain rough abrasives, detergents, and sweetening agents. Homemade products can achieve a better result without the use of harmful ingredients.

When You Forget Your Toothbrush

Rub a sage leaf over the teeth and gums to make them feel polished and clean.

Peel a twig of flowering dogwood, chew the end to create a brush and rub on the teeth and gently on the gums.

Peppermint Toothpaste

To make your won toothpaste, take 1-tsp of baking soda, or powdered strawberry roots and 2 drops of Oil of Peppermint, add enough drops of water to create a paste. Mix and use.

Mouthwashes

Commercial mouthwashes are often so powerful that they damage the proper balance of digestive juices and can irritate the lining of the mouth. Remember, to always see a physician for persistent bad breath, as the digestive tract may not be functioning properly. To sweeten the breath, chew fresh parsley, or watercress.

Mint and Rosemary Mouthwash

Both herbs sweeten the breath and rosemary has antiseptic properties. If you wish to make larger quantities, add 1-tsp Myrrh tincture for its preservative properties.

2 ½ cups Distilled Water or Mineral Water 1-tsp Rosemary Leaves 1-tsp Fresh Mint Leaves 1-tsp Aniseed

Boil the water and infuse the mint, rosemary, and aniseed for 20 minutes. When cook, strain and use as a gargle.

Herbs for Oral Care

Dogwood – Crushed twig stimulates gums.

Lavender Water – Sweet smelling mouthwash.

Clove Oil – Relief for sudden toothaches.

Parsley – Sweetens breathe.

Peppermint – An infusion makes a popular mouthwash.

Rosewater – Refreshing as a mouthwash.

Rosemary – Soothing gargle.
