Last week was extremely long and painful for me. Twice last week I was close to going fishing twice and I have yet been able to wet a hook. That may explain the feeling of weakness in my knees, the aching in my joints, and the pangs that are not hunger in my gut. Here's my story and I can tell it any way I like so here goes and please don't let this happen to YOU.
My wife (The prettiest, sweetest, kindest women that ever walk the face of this old earth) asked me if we could 'get away' for the weekend, just her and me. She had a glint in her eyes, and I knew that was a promising sign of a good time. We have a 15 year old at home and an 11 year old, so getting away from it all means getting away from it ALL. I quickly said yes, packeed our bags, loaded them in the car, then she told me that the weekend was still four days away. She had make me make reservations before anything else could come up or I could change my mind. (Like I really would :^) Our plans were set and everything was ready for us to leave on Saturday morning. However: Thursday night my 11 year old tells me WE have been invited to go on a five day fishing trip with his friends and their fathers, to Paducah, Kentucky and would I want to go along? They were renting a large cabin, and there would be no mothers, wives, or sisters along, no women at all. It was going to be a MEN'S weekend out and about. They had three bass boats and one pontoon boat for us to share. I was foaming at the mouth when I noticed my wife standing there, tapping her foot, shaking her head and frawning!!!! Now I remind you that I am just a man, a man that loves to fish. I would do just about anything to be able to get away for a week's fishing trip with my boy. I am a man, but I am also a married man. There is the rub. My son tells me no problem. He can go with his best friend and his dad. I swallowed hard and then went downstairs to set him up with his tackle box, some of my favorite lures, worms, my favorite spincast rod, and the last two trailers I'd ordered special made. I sent him off Friday evening with a tear in my eye, all the tackle tagged, notes on when and how to use each of the lures, worms, jigs, and wishes for good luck.
