Now back to your regularly scheduled article. There are a number of special sites set up on the Web to cover the postseason, so today we'll take a quick look at them. But first here's a quick preview of the American League and National League Championship Series. The American League Championship Series starts tonight and features the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Indians, with the Yankees as overwhelming favorites. The Yankees won an American League record of 114 games this year, and are clearly superior to Cleveland in every area except perhaps the bullpen. The Indians have plenty of weapons and depth, but the Yankees have already proven their astounding depth and quality while running over the entire American League, and with their much better frontline starting pitching, the Yankees should be able to wrap this series up in 6 games. The National League Championship starts Wednesday, and is much more likely to be a hard, drawn-out battle. The Braves are and should be favored because of their three guys named Maddux, Glavine and Smoltz. The Padres, though, are able to counter with Kevin Brown and a solid staff. Offensively, the two teams are relatively equal overall. It should be a series of low-scoring games with home runs and the 3 big guns playing the crucial part in a series win for Atlanta in 7 games. Now on to the links. The official site of the major league postseason is being produced this year by CBS Sportsline at Worldseries.com. It's hard to tell what's official about it though, for better or worse. CNN/SI, ESPN.com, and Fastball also all have special sites involved to cover all the lastest postseason happenings. The Sporting News, meanwhile, has a special feature, Postseason Clubhouses, which fills the readers in on the history and tradition of all the clubs which made the postseason. Meanwhile, if you want to look at postseasons of the past, check out Total World Series and The Sporting News World Series Archives. If you follow baseball closely, you're invited to participate in the 7th Annual Internet Baseball Awards. While there are many online polls asking who should win the postseason awards, this is the only place in cyberspace which asks voters to fill out full ballots for each major award. Check out the ballot and instructions on the Baseball Prospectus site if you're interested. Voting ends Tuesday, October 13th. Go To Page: 1 2
