The Baha'i Faith is a very new religion, tracing it's start to May 22, 1844. It was on this date that the Bab (Siyyid 'Ali-Muhammad) declared his mission as a Manifestation of God, to Mulla Husayn. While this event was the start of the Babi Faith, Baha'is view the Bab as one of two Manifestations of God for this age. The other is the founder of the Baha'i Faith, Baha'u'llah [Mirza Husayn-'Ali]. On July 9, 1850, the Bab was martyred when Nasiri'd-Din Shah ordered His execution.
Baha'u'llah was one of the followers of the Bab, and was imprisoned by the Shah. During this imprisonment, Baha'u'llah receives the knowledge that He is the Bab's successor and the Messenger of God for this day. Although this happened in 1852, Baha'u'llah did not publicly declare His mission until April 22, 1863, while in exile in Baghdad. His stay in Baghdad was only one of many stops on His way to His final destination, Acca, in Palestine. There He was imprisoned from August of 1868 until November of 1870, when He and His family were allowed to reside in a house outside the prison barracks. He was destined to die in exile in the surrounding countryside of Acca. A complete timetable of the History of the Baha'i faith can be found at http://www.interlog.com/~winters/article... During His Ministry, Baha'u'llah wrote letters to many of the world's leaders, among them being: Napoleon III, the Czar, Queen Victoria, the Pope, the Sultan and the Shah. Only Queen Victoria did not reject His letter. Baha'u'llah also wrote many books containing the Spiritual Teachings for mankind in this age. These range from the mystical "The Seven Valleys and The Four Valleys" to "The Book of Certitude (Kitab-i-Iqan)," a proof of His mission. Many of these and other Baha'i books and essays can be found on the web. Please see the links for these resources. Today, the Baha'i faith is the second most wide spread religion in the world. The foundation for this faith was laid by Baha'u'llah and is based on the idea of progressive revelation. This is the idea that God has revealed Himself to mankind throughout history, and will continue to do so in the future. The Baha'i Faith is the most recent revelation, but not the last. Among the previous Manifestation are Moses, Abraham, Buddha, Jesus, Zoroaster, and Muhammad. Among the teachings of the Baha'i Faith are the following principles: The oneness of the reveled religions, the agreement of science and religion, the equality of men and women, the equality of all the races of mankind, and, the elevation of work (in the spirit of service) to prayer. I hope to explore these and other aspects of The Baha'i Faith in later articles. Go To Page: 1 2
