Backpacking with Dogs II

The preparation time before my backpack trips are all about dreams and hope. I imagine what it will be like in that big country just waiting for me and the dogs to explore. I know I am a simple man, with humble dreams, and probably I am lucky being so. Other than wishing for the health and well-being of my children, I can't think of anything more I would want that walking in the beauty of a Colorado wilderness with my dogs. Next week that wish will be realized, again, God willing. Picture us four up there alone, climbing through the last spruce and fir into the wide expanses of alpine fields, sitting next to our tent listening and watching as the valleys and mountains retreat into darkness. The impact of a trip like that tends to stay with you. Neither me or that new puppy will ever forget it.
