Backpacking Bargains on the WebOne of the pleasures of ecommerce are the online bargains that are available to the careful shopper. I would like to share a couple of my favorite gear web sites, that frequently discount backpacking gear from 30 to 70% below retail prices Campmor is a longtime outdoor equipment provider that has built a very complete and dynamic web presence, with all of the equipment online that a backpacker would need to hike into wilderness. I check their site often to see what they have added to web bargains, which are tents, clothing, sleeping gear, footware and packs at below catalog prices or at special purchase prices. Campor also has hot deals at drastically reduced prices. I picked up my favorite backpack at Campmor: the Kelty Tioga, during one of these hot deals last winter (at a 40% discount). Rei.com is also an excellent backpacking gear store. I spend more time at their discount web site Rei-outlet.com, which has special purchase or close-out items at up to a 60% discount from retail. Not all colors or sizes are available on close-out merchandise. If you do find some gear you need at the right size, you can save a whole wad of money. I have picked up some wool-polyester blend winter clothing for late season backpacking and winter walks (and commutes). There is nothing like a walk in winter woods when you are dressed warm enough to enjoy the snow-covered landscape. Both Rei-outlet and Campmor have good return policies. You can return items for any reason that are bought online at Rei-outlet, for up to 90 days after purchase. At Campmor you can return any item for up to one year after purchase, as long as it is in resaleable condition and is accompanied by your receipt. These online backpacking stores are definitely worth frequent returns to check for deals on equipment you might need.
