The Earth/Minbari War Part 1

The single factor that most probably started the Babylon project was, because of their experiences during the Earth/Minbari War. The war had cost both sides during four - five years of bloody warfare. It had started with a misunderstanding between two different species that were alien to each other (Sound familiar), the Humans have heard of the Minbari through the Centauri, and had asked for their help to make contact with them.

But the Centauri merely refused the offer and warned the Humans not to approach the Minbari. But the Humans (as always) decided to send out an expeditionary force anyway to explore Minbari, hoping to avoid a direct confrontation with Minbari patrols. But unknown to them, a Minbari expeditionary force was also in the sector of space that the Humans were going to explore (their leader was also with them). So a direct confrontation was now unavoidable.

As the Earth expeditionary force ventured further into Minbari space, they detected several ships on the edge of scanner range but they could not tell what they were because the sensors on the Minbari ships were so strong that it played havoc on their scanners. But that did not totally disabled their sensors and they detected that the Minbari ships had their gun ports open but they could not determine if the Minbari targeting systems were online. The Captain of the Prometheus (The flagship of the expedition) interpreting the Minbari gesture as a prelude to an attack ordered all fighters to be launched and opened fire at the Minbari vessels.
