Merchandising - Where the real money is made

You may have heard the phrase "Merchandising - where the real money is made." If not, well, sadly for some fans, this is where some of the real money is made for a T.V. show. But of course this is only an extension to B5. Now I will take you through some of the many items of merchandising you will find out there involving Babylon 5.

First up there is the Babylon 5 Ship Models and figurines that many fans have been waiting for a long time and have only been recently released (well, the models at least). These models are made by Revel, a well respected model making company. The range so far include the Babylon 5 Station and the Earth Alliance Starfury in various incarnations. These models also include selected charactors from the show in miniature figures that fit inside the cockpit. Look out for them at your nearest hobby shop.

Then there are many B5 books out there that deal with different aspects of the show, from episode guides to fictional novels. Comics are made of the show as well; their storyline is probably closely tied in with that of the novels. There is also a B5 monthly magazine about the show (P.S. there may be the occasional spoiler in each issue) containing news and articles. Check them out at your nearest book store.

Now, Babylon 5 software is available for those of you who have the facilities to run them. I have already explained them in a previous article ("Babylon 5 Spins onto the Computer"). They are, of course, the "Babylon 5 Reference CD-ROM" (which is already released) and "The Babylon 5 Comabt Sim", which is due out later this year. They are both produced by Sierra On-Line. There are also various other collectable items out there for sale, such as collector's cards, wall-sized posters and life-size cardboard cut-outs.

Well, that's our brief trip through the world of Babylon 5 merchandising. Tthere are plenty more to find out about if you point your browser to Babylon 5 Spoiler Junkies Page/Merchandise Section.
