Ships of the Earth Alliance

In this article we will examine the ships of the Earth Alliance. The Earth Alliance is, of course, the humans. Their ship design is probably the most unimaginative of the entire B5 universe (Well, their capital ships anyway). Most of their capital ships have a hexagonal opening at the front, in which fighters and lesser ships that is carried on board are launched. Their capital ships look like something that had been pieced together at random from materials found in a junk pile. But their fighters are a little more aesthetically pleasing to look at. Mind you, Earth alliance ships are designed to be practical - not elegant, and they do their designed jobs very well. Even though their capital ships look very flimsy, they are surprisingly tough and very heavily armoured. All EA ships are painted in a metallic grey colour, and all capital ships have name plates attached to the sides of their hulls, and for the fighters they have symbols indicating which squadron they are from.

Now, the EA have three types of capital ships in service at the moment: The Hyperion Cruiser, The Nova Dreadnought, and their newest one, the Omega class Destroyer. The Hyperion class cruiser is the oldest EA ship still in service. They date back to before the Earth/Minbari War. Despite its designation as a Cruiser, it is very small and is probably about a third the size of the Omega Destroyer. It has no artificial gravity nor a rotating section so all crew has to be strapped in, it also carries its own jump engines. Weapon systems include heavy pulse cannons mounted on about four double turrets and a beam weapon attached to the side of the hull. Next up is the Nova class Dreadnought (which also dates back to before the Earth/Minbari War) it is designed to be a heavy weapons platform which can dual it out with enemy capital ships. This ship is in appearance very close to the Omega Class Destroyers and similar in size minus the rotating section on the Omegas. Like the Hyperions, this ship has no gravity so all crew have to be strapped in. Weapon systems include sixteen pulse cannons mounted throughout the ship in pairs. Lastly we have the Omega Class Destroyers - which is their newest capital ship in service. Designed after the Earth/Minbari War this ship was based on the Nova design with a rotating section attached to provide gravity to the crew, therefore lengthening its durability. Weapon systems include two energy beam weapons and two pulse cannons mounted next to each other at the front, as well as four pulse cannons and two beam
