Is there life after Babylon 5?© David Ye
Ah, at the blink of an eye, another season of Babylon 5 is nearly over,
and this season (season 4) went by pretty quickly. There is just one more season of Babylon 5 before it finishes.
And what happens after Babylon 5 finishes? It is going to leave a huge hole in sci-fi drama that might possibly never be filled by any other show. They might try, but they will possibly never come close. For those of you who are already feeling a bit sad over this, I have some news which might just ease your pain a little. First of all, there will not be a sixth season of Babylon 5. Although TNT network tried to push for one JMS simply will not allow it. As he said, it would ruin the whole concept plus context of the show, as it is a novel made for T.V. It has a definite beginning, middle and END. So the ending is the ending and THAT, they say, is that as far as Babylon 5 itself is concerned. But that does not stop a sequel series being made, and the storyline itself is in the pipeline as we speak. This sequel series diverges away from the main Babylon 5 plot line, and focuses mainly on the adventures of the Rangers. Although a few of the original cast will be there, it is essentially a whole new show with many new charactors being introduced. So watch closely for any developments. Not only is there a sequel to Babylon 5, but, as you may have heard, there are several TV movies planned for Babylon 5 (One of them titled "In the Beginning" has already been completed), I know the rough details for two of them. The first is called "In the Beginning" and, as the title suggests, it talks about how Babylon 5 come about into existence - a sort of a prequel. It focuses on the Earth/Minbari war - how it started, stopped (suddenly), and its contribution to the Babylon project. It also forms the beginnings of some of the plot threads we see later to Babylon 5, although we probably already understand most of those threads as we have already seen nearly the entire series (and this was supposed to have taken place before Babylon 5 started). The second one is called "Thirdspace," and takes place in between season 4 episodes 5 and 6, and is about the crew of Babylon 5 finding a unknown object outside the station that is supposily millions of years old, a kind of a gateway to "beyond the rim."
