Introducing - Babylon 5

We've seen it all before - a sci fi show about space and wars hyped to death and when it actually comes out it is a complete bomb. A prime example would be Space - Above and beyond which only survived for one season in the U.S. I hear, and a had an even shorter life span in New Zealand, after it was hiped to the point where it became the show of all shows. Sadly this was wrong. Then the show just becomes cannon fodder for the critics. But this show has survived all that and have become one of the most popular sci fi shows around at the moment. Babylon 5 as the show is titled, is a space age odyssey set in the 23rd century and although time frame for this series is a circumstanstual coincidence with that of Star Trek the original series. From the moment a disturbed foreigned accented blurted out the words "I was there at the dawn of the third age of Mankind, it began in the Earth year 2257", it became a epic journey filled with intrigue, comedy, tension, and a series of inricately interwoven plots that will send your brain reeling. Babylon 5 is not your average series drama, in that it is a whole story with an actual beginning, middle and end. It has a planned five year run and is now in its fourth season. Basically the whole story is based around the buildup to what is know as the "Shadow War" but that title is really misleading but you would have to watch the show to understand, the war itself, the aftermath and rebuilding. The characters are themslves blended into this storyline seemlessly and their actions affect and dictate what will be the outcome of this whole saga. Also the characters themselves change quite a bit as the story progresses along (Some more than others - way more)so the characters themselves are not quite the same people at the end than it was when they started out. Already it has achived huge success and recognition in the Sci Fi world by winning awards such as the Hugo awards (Beating Star Trek and The X-Files) and for its stunning visual effects which is entirely created on computers. This is what makes Babylon 5 so diffrent and special from other shows in that it not only has a intrcately woven storyline (And its a story rather like a T.V. novel) but also stunning special effects to boot. Although it is very good, there is one gripe about this great show, and that
