One enduring romance

Romance is a particularly exciting part of life and there is no shortage of that on Babylon 5. However given it is a sci fi show many would think that romance would be trivialised and be thought of as a type of game played by the writers. But there is one particular piece of romance that stands and is an integral part of the charactor and plot development within the series. Unlike many other relationships, this one is actually planted within the storyline and was always meant to happen and certain events happen in order to bring about its inception. And that this relationship takes place is absolutely vital towards the eventual course of the story. As the story reveals, their relationship was predicted in a prophecy that will unite the two halves of their peoples' souls. Thus enable them to fight the oncoming darkness. The very beginings of their relationship can be traced back to the transfer of Commander Sinclair to be the ambassador to Minbar, and replacing him with Sheridan. Thereby enabling Sheridan and Delenn to meet. Thereafter they became very good friends and were deeply concerned about each other's well being. Although they had developed romantic emotions for each other, they would or did not disclose them for another two years. The development of their relationship has been very awkward for those involved as this is one of the few interspecies relationships to surface. Both Sheridan and Delenn had to move very slowly to avoid any misunderstandings or recrimination from their own people. This is fairly obvious due to the fact that the both of them would have very different ideas on what love is and how a relationship between two people should be fostered. So its no surprise that it took them almost the entire series for them to be married. But through the barriers of language, race and culture they found a universal language that could break through any obstacles - that of love, through their enduring love for each other they would gladly sacrifice themselves in order to ensure the other's safety. And without this, the B5 world would have been a very different place indead.
