Claudia Chistian comes to New Zealand

Jun 11, 1999 - © David Ye

A very exciting weekend that was with Claudia Christian coming to town. And down here in New Zealand it was really a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet one of the biggest stars on sci-fi television. Claudia arrived about 15 minutes late but it was worth the wait; apparently the audience was a little less enthusiastic than they were on Saturday. Anyway she commented on how great Auckland was - especially the sunrises, and how she got up before dawn just to see it. After the usual blaze of flashes from the cameras, we went down to business with her taking and answering questions. Apparently she was a little annoyed at people asking some of the same questions as on Saturday but nevertheless she continued on. She explained how she was removed from season 5 because she wanted 4 episodes off for doing another project but Warner Bros. would not let her and so they fired her and got Tracy Scoggins instead. By the way, Tracy only appeared in 8 episodes.

She also explained about the energetic Jason Carter and how serious an actor Walter Koenig was (he practices his lines in front of a mirror until he was satisfied it was perfect!). Claudia also agreed that Ivanova should have "boffed" Marcus just once before he died. There were many other snippets of trivia and a few hilarious jokes in between, and after that she basically talked about her current projects and how she had her face rearranged by her pet dog. The doctors had to perform reconstructive surgery on her and they did a beautiful job at that, you would have never known that she had half he face bitten off. Anyway after the session she went down and signed autographs and left.

It was a great experience meeting her and a very nice person to talk to.
