Our own PrejudicesIn the first season of Babylon 5, G'Kar actually was not a very decent individual and Londo had not yet been tempted by the Shadows. He was a decent person - and the animosity between the Narn and the Centauri was revealed. It was this animosity and then the friendship that developed between these two characters that proved instrumental to stopping evil for the Centauri in the end. As the show developed we saw the change in the characters - G'Kar became the more decent character, full of light and goodness and he worked hard to redeem himself. He became a religious figure, wrote a book, and had a following of other Narn. What a transformation! And Londo slipped deeper in the darkness, the evil, and soon there came a time when he could not pull himself out. He was even warned by a prophecy that he would have three chances to save himself. Did he fulfill that? That's another article! So, the point here was that JMS successfully used imagery and our conscious and unconscious prejudices to shape the way we thought about the characters in Babylon 5. This made the show more successful, because he then turned these images and perceptions around to the opposite side and showed us that not all that we think is true.
