Vorlons, Religion, and The Fall of NightCan't get away from it, can I? This episode has actually fascinated me for some time now. This is the one where Sheridan had to blow up the Centauri battle cruiser to save a Narn ship that had asked for sanctuary. The Centauri fired first, but of course the Ministry of Peace from Earth happened to be there, and thing got a bit messy, to say the least. Sheridan was forced to apologize in front of all of the races in the garden, a very public place. If you want the full details, please go to The Lurker's Guide to Babylon 5 http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/lurker.html This is the best Web site for a synopsis and analysis of each episode As Sheridan was taking a shuttle to the garden, a Centauri left a bomb in the shuttle, and he was forced to jump. Without immediate intervention he would die. There was no way that any sort of Earth device could reach him in time before he would hit the ground. Delenn urged Kosh to do something. They knew what was at stake in the coming war. So, Kosh did. He came out of his encounter suit, flew up, and rescued Sheridan. To Sheridan he was an angel, but he still knew who it was. Other races, other creatures in the garden saw whomever they had in their religions, or sacred beings. But there was one person who saw nothing: Londo Mollari. So, I keep asking myself, why didn't Londo see anything? We know from the religious ceremonies in the first seasons that the Centauri have religion and many gods and goddesses. So, it's not that. Many races we've never seen, saw somebody. Even G'Kar, who wasn't supposed to be there, saw "G'Lan". In the JMS speaks section of the Lurker's Guide, he makes it clear that what I've said above is true - Centauri have religion and Londo spoke what he saw. Here are my hypotheses, and they are a combination of sorts. Londo may be too far within the Shadows grasp, and his soul has descended too far into blackness (I was going to say into the dark side of the force, but that's probably patented, although an apt description - wrong topic too - I apologize to whoever holds the Star Wars topic). He has accepted and used Morden's help to do start a horrible war with the Narn, killing millions, and wreaking havoc with the rest of the races. He is full of himself, full of pride. You can see it when he walks, because he knows his allies are behind him. But what he doesn't know is who they really are, and the price he will pay. Their blackness may not be physically in front of him, but may blind him to the Vorlons, who are the enemy and opposite of the Shadows.
