Books
When it comes to books on CAD, this is one of the best series written for both AutoCAD and 3D Studio Max/Viz. Here's there latest version for A2k:

Contest!
Now through March 21st we are looking for your best mini LISP routine. Check out the contest!

Thumbnails
If' you're like me, you hate receiving files that are saved as r12 since you can't see an image in ACAD when you try to open it. Unfortunately, while it would be nice to view the thumbnails elsewhere besides in AutoCAD, say from Windows Explorer, Windows somehow forgot that Autodesk is the 3rd largest software manufacturer in the world and for some reason didn't deserve the ability to view it's thumbnails. Well, Seifert Group has come up with an interesting small program that will fix this called CAD Thumb. Well, now you can. It still isn't "view as a web page", but if you select a .DWG file and then right click on it, if it has a thumbnail it will show it in the context menu. It will also tell you what version of ACAD created the file. Not a bad little program, although at this time it only seems to preview r13 and r14 files. It will also allow you to view the thumbnail at either 1x, 1.5x or 2x's the image size to better see what you are opening. Thanks to David at DJP Drafting for this one!

Usability Testing
Do you live around San Francisco? Are you interested in helping Autodesk create a better product? Do you think you're 2 cents are better than anyone else's? If so you might want to consider helping out and becoming an Autodesk Usability Tester. You get paid, it takes only 1 hour, and it's scheduled to meet your time. You may do as many or as few as you like per year, so long as you meet the minimum requirements for each study group. If you are interested, drop an email to Jennifer Hammond, Executive Assistant, AutoCAD Development.

M-color
While I might have mentioned this product quite awhile ago, it deserves another look. It is the only product that I have ever heard of that allows you to work with the full 16.7 millions colors inside of AutoCAD using both fills and lines. It can now be linked with Pantone colors - a system of matching color on paper to monitor to service bureau output, and also allows the mixing of images with the fills. It can export the images to it's own format or to an EPS file, or several other popular formats. It is easy to edit inside of AutoCAD where it runs (no switching between programs here) or if you've already rendered it, you can use the program to adjust the colors post rendered in a separate application that it comes with, or do you adjustment easily in PhotoShop. Best of all, you can do all of this in 2D! Not a single 3D line needs to be drawn. Our firm uses it for doing elevations of buildings, but many civil engineers use this for site maps.
