Inventor Anyone?Tips of the week: When considering buying and installing A2k, keep in mind that it doesn't care much for Win 95, Win98 and Win98SE. Instead plan on running it on an NT workstation. This will create a much more stable situation. Plan on adding allot more time and money into your system in order to have this run smoothly. If you are planning on upgrading to 3D Studio Max r3, please realize that if you are on NT, you must be running service pack 4. This may cause problems with other programs. When running r14 you will find in the Config command a sysvar called Maxsort. This is normally set to 100. This variable which can be accessed at the command line by typing Maxsort tells AutoCAD the maximum number of things to sort in a list. This includes your layer list. In A2k for some reason they have taken this back out of the Config command. You now have to remember the variable's name and enter on the command line. The reason this is important is when you have a drawing with several Xref's, very quickly your number of layers increase, many times over this limit. I find that by resetting it to 200 I have fewer problems. Typically if this is not set high enough ACAD does a poor job at sorting things, which means you have a problem finding things. If you set this too high it can slow down the computer, however with today's high speed computers, typically this isn't a problem. Sites of the week: Still looking for the right hatch? The CompugraphX site contains 300 hatches, including things like spanish tiles, wood grains, and flagstones. This is curtently listing for $99. Here is the AutoCAD Bug List. This is probably not a complete list, but does include some interesting bugs, including a bug that when you use the Area command, it will give you the wrong area! If you calculate areas in a drawing you might want to check this bug out, along with the rest of the issues listed here. AutoCADĀ® Exposed offers a list of various undocumented commands. Most of the commands listed do nothing, but there is a few that are interesting. These commands have been tested in r12 through r14. If you use an HP plotter, you might want to check out the their web page. They have recently updated their drivers. NT Win9x
