AutoCAD onlineFor a switch this week I was going to highlight anything that I could find in the way of models of Star Wars. Being quite surprised to find nothing in the way of Star Wars models I'm going to instead highlight some interesting sites on the web that I found while searching. First is the Viewpoint site where you can find more than 12,000 various 3D models, none of which seem to contain an X wing fighter or a Death Star. http://www.viewpoint.com/ Next up is the CAD Users' Ring - a grouping of CAD users on the net. http://www.nettaxi.com/citizens/autojour/ Next up is User Friendly. If you combine The Norm, Dilbert and your pointy haired boss in the cubicle around the corner from yours you'd get end up with this very funny comic series at http://www.userfriendly.org/ http://www.74mph.com/ has an interesting lisp routine that allows you to do batch functions on a set of drawings. Need to change a date on 50 sheets or change the color of a layer in 35 drawings? If so, the cost of your time versus the cost of this program may well make you decide to try it. Do you need a book on either AutoCAD or 3D Studio, then you might want to check out http://cad.findhere.com/ Are you looking to buy AutoCAD? If so you might want to check out ebay's extensive collection of items on AutoCAD. Remember that r11 and r12 won't be able to be upgraded for much longer and you might find a good deal on an old version here. http://www.industry.net/c/mn/_swcad/ contains links for almost every possible type of routine you might be looking for, along with fonts, menus, and even a routine to attach audio notes to a drawing! If you can't find what you're looking for there, you might want to try http://www.cadsoftware.com/ Then there's always AUGI at http://www.augi.com/ which is the international Autodesk User Group International association. They have classes there, info, links, etc. During the past week I was at Autodesk HQ seeing the latest in the AutoCAD 2000 family of products. While there I picked up some goodies that I'm going to pass along to the folks who read this. I'm right now considering exactly what people will need to do to win some free AutoCAD schwag, and if any of you have any ideas for a good conest, let me know. Of the things that I saw, I must say that the most impressive of all was the ability to work on attached xref's directly in the drawing they are attached to without opening them in another copy of AutoCAD.
