POBST RACES WITH JOB AT 49th RUNNING OF 12 HOURS OF SEBRING©
Randy Pobst's 2000 competitive performance, win at 2001 Rolex 24 at Daytona and podium finish at Texas in the first race of the 2001 ALMS season have certainly brought the words of Bill Bowser back to haunt him.
"Randy Pobst is one of the most underrated drivers in this series." Said Bowser, race commentator, hour 18 of the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, February 6, 2000. "Pobst has a history of professional and SCCA racing and I don't know why a big team has not snatched him up." Apparently Alex Job agreed, since they signed Pobst to drive one of their Porsche 911 GT3R entries. After a season where he battled closely for points against Sascha Maassen and eventual champion Dirk Muller, Pobst, a Melbourne, Florida resident, veteran racer and GT champion, has signed up again by privateer Alex Job Racing, of Tavares, Florida for 2001. Pobst will be paired with German Christian Menzel, his co-driver for the Rolex 24 hours of Daytona win. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS will be one of two sponsored by McKenna Automotive Group, a major southern California automotive retailer, in the team's quest to become the American Le Mans Series GT class champion. ALMS veterans Sascha Maassen and Lucas Luhr will drive the second car. With Pobst, Maassen, Luhr and Menzel, as drivers, it would seem to position Alex Job Racing as the lead Porsche effort. Pobst battled last year with the Dick Barbour Racing Porsches, and although Alex Job Racing prepared and engineered a strong effort, there were reports that the Dick Barbour Porsches had developmental pieces on their Porsches that no one else had. The new GT3RS is almost identical to the GT3 R that was a popular model on the ALMS tracks last year, but has a larger front radiator, a slightly different front spoiler and rear wing and other minor changes. Built by Porsche Motorsport in Weissach, Germany, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS delivers 420 horsepower from its 3.6-liter, normally aspirated engine. At the first race of the American Le Mans Series at the Superflo 12 Hours of Sebring, March, 1999, Randy drove a 911 Porsche for Job, earned the fastest qualifying time for the GT class, and finished second. A versatile driver, he has shown his ability in a variety of makes and models, with twenty years of experience. Randy said, of joining forces with Alex Job, "We have worked well together in the past and as a privateer team, although we are not factory sponsored, our relationship with the Porsche factory is a warm one." Pobst helped guide the AJR Porsches to ALMS wins last year at Mosport and Texas Motor Speedway. Always an enthusiastic and dedicated racer, Pobst looks forward to a fabulous year and many podium finishes. Go To Page: 1 2
