It was the third victory for the Dyson Racing team in the inaugural season for the Grand American Road Racing Association. Weaver took a four second victory over a three-car group that was in close competition for second. With this win, Weaver has increased his lead in the SportsRacer point standings.
"Our car was brilliant, it couldn't have been better," said Weaver."But we were very lucky with the last yellow. If it hadn't been for that The Doran car would have beaten us." The Dyson Riley and Scott Ford averaged 103.825 miles per hour. "We ran the car very light on downforce, on purpose, to get good straightaway speeds," explained team mate Andy Wallace. "We were very fastÅ and a couple of times it got very close to the wall." Second Place went to Didier Theys /Ross Bentley in the Doran Lista Special, Risi Ferrari 333SP with Mimmo Schiattarelli and Ralf Kelleners third with a last-lap pass of Jack Baldwin/George Robinson in a Riley and Scott. Intersport's Ford Lola, piloted by Jon Field, was fifth, all on the lead lap. Larry Oberto/Ryan Hampton in Archangel Motorsports Nissan-Lola took first in SportsRacer Lights. Darren Law/Mike Fitzgerald won GTU in the G&W Porsche, Eric Messley and Marty Miller took GTO honors in a Dodge Viper. The Spirit of Daytona, prepared by Flis Motorsports, of Daytona, won on its home turf. The Camaro had some problems but over came them to bring the team of Craig Conway and Doug Goad to victory. The Chevrolet Camaro #09 finished with a clogged radiator and with only one gear in operation. The night race was revived after almost 15 years was scheduled for eleven PM following the qualifying for the Pepsi 400, one of the premier NASCAR Winston Cup events. Grand-Am owner Bill France, hopes to ignite the kind of interest for road racing that loyal fans have for ovals. Grand-Am President Roger Edmonson pointed out the importance of showing the sport to a lot of NASCAR fans played a big role in the revival of this race. "We think that after the excitement of qualifying for the Pepsi 400, the fans are not going to be ready to give it up," said Edmonson. "So we want them to stick around to see a great race, which will showcase some of the best sports cars and drivers in the world." The Paul Revere 250 introduced NASCAR fans to five different classes of sports cars, and as Edmonson said "It's just a different form of the sport they already love, which is motorsports. Part of what Grand-Am is all about is not just moving forward in sports car racing, but trying to recapture the history and traditions of the past. We've been able to have three revival events this year -The Road America 500, the Six Hours of Watkins Glen and the Paul Revere 250." Go To Page: 1 2
