In a surprise move by L'Automobile Club de L'OUEST, the sanctioning body of the 24 Hours of LeMans, The Dick Barbour Porsche was pulled from the final official results. This was especially disappointing to driver Bob Wollek who had thought he had finally won his first LeMans.

The # 83 Porsche GT3R that won the GT category was determined to have a fuel cell that held an extra liter of gasoline in what was supposed to have been a 100 liter tank.

Dick Barbour has chosen not to appeal the decision but he claims that there was no wrong doing by the team, and no attempt to defraud the proceedings. According to records, the Barbour car did not have more time between pit stops than any other Porsche, but dominated the race by the use of strategy, great driving and the reliability of the car.

The #73 Team Taisan Advan Porsche 911 GT3-R of Atsushi Yogo/Hideo Fukuyama/Bruno Lambert moved up into the top GT spot with #82 Skea Racing and #76 Seikel Motorsport Porsches being promoted to second and third in class.
