James Weaver and Butch Letzinger led all the way at Lime Rock on Memorial Day to give Dyson Racing an impressive victory before a record holiday crowd at the Dodge Dealers Grand Prix May 29, 2000. They drove a Ford powered Riley and Scott owned by Rob Dyson, from nearby Pleasant valley, New York, lapping the second place car Doran special of Miami winner Didier Theys and Fredy Leinhrad in a 150 mile race showcasing Grand-Am Sportsracers and Sportracers lights.

"The car was absolutely superb," said Weaver, who also won the Sportsracer class at The Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona. "You might see a car like this only once in 100 races."

After Dennis Spencer, driving in the Trench Shoring/Crocotile Mazda Kudzu ,spun into the Dyson Riley and Scott tires on the back straight, Weaver said with his usual humor, "We had a minor territorial dispute but sorted it out after that."

Terry Borcheller and Ron Johnson survived a sticking throttle and brief fire during their pit stop and recovered to win the Grand-Am GT race. The pair drove a Saleen SR car owned by Steve Saleen and actor Tim Allen .

Third place was taken by Risi Competizione in a Ferrari 333SP driven by Mimmo Schiattarella and Ralf Kelleners, who incidentally has the closest call with Weaver, touching side to side at the start of the race.

Borcheller was driving and three time the throttle stuck as he was trying to pass, the taem aslo lost two laps while a fire started in the pits when fuel spilled onto an exhaust pipe. The blaze was quickly exhausted but Johnson went back out into the race in sixth position which he quickly improved. Rick Fairbanks and Bill Auberlen finished second overall and first in GTU in the Genesis Racing BMW M-3 , followed by Darren Law and Mike Fitzgerald. AGT class was won by Doug Goad and Craig Conway driving the Spirit of Daytona, a Chevrolet Camaro.

Lime Rock is located in scenic Northwestern Connecticut and because of its close proximity to New York City, it is known to attract many celebrities from both the world of sports and entertainment. In the track's early years people like Walter Cronkite, Dave Garroway and Dick Smothers were regular visitors. Most recently, actors Paul Newman Tom Cruise and Craig T. Nelson, rock stars John Oates and Jeff Carlisi and football hero Walter Payton have raced at Lime Rock.
