FERRARI WINS AT HOMESTEAD AND BMW TAKES FIRST AT SILVERSTONEAnother inaugural race for the two sanctioning bodies, Silverstone marks the first for Europe Le Mans Series (ELMS) which keeps fans intrigued about where Don Panoz plans to take this Le Mans series. The winners at Silverstone were Lehto/Muller in #42 BMW, Brabham/Magnussen in Panoz and Audi took the third spot. The class leaders at Silverstone the same lineup as at Charlotte earlier this year. BMW #42 driven by JJ. Letho and Jorg Muller, #91 Viper, and #51 Dick Barbour Porsche. This was a race of the world's top GT cars. So far in point count for ALMS it is JJ Letho and Jorge Muller for BMW in Prototype, Beretta and Wendlinger for Daimler Chrysler in GTS and Dirk Muller for Porsche in GT. With this season being full of races, fans can watch their favorite team compete in two different leagues with titles, prizes and podium finishes up for grabs. Many of the same teams that compete in ALMS will also compete in Grand Am. Whether or not two sanctioning bodies will be good for Professional Sportscar Racing is anybody's guess. It seems that NASCAR was only able to become as popular as it is because it has a deep and loyal base of fans who understand what is going on. ALMS and Grand-Am Fans have to understand two sets of rules, two set of class divisions and two sets of champions. That could either enhance or detract from the game depending on how it gets played. Grand-Am has added many new venues in the United States and ALMS has added them in the US, Europe and Australia. So maybe the fan will be the beneficiary of an extended number of races in an extended number of places to give more people a chance to see their heros. May has still more action and the summer promises to be full of action also. The next rounds for Grand-Am and ALMS both with be exciting. Grand -Am goes to Limestone and ALMS to Nurenburgring. And, of course some of the cars from ALMS will be entered into the LeMans, France race which is a premiere sporting event.
