Taking It To The Streets Of Canberra.

New Leader Of The Opposition.
After a weekend of racing around the Houses of Parliament Steven Johnson had the numbers to become the new Leader Of The Opposition. The other candidates, Ambrose and Lowndes, failed to find the support needed and withdrew from the contest. Although elder statesman John Bowe got an improved approval rating with his new Falcon AU policy, he did not grab the headlines. He did drum up solid grass roots support and managed to end up in fourth place after the distribution of preferences. Steven Richards got his first reward for crossing the floor with a win in the reverse grid race on Sunday morning.

A Cabinet reshuffle resulted in Mark Skaife taking over the portfolio of Leader of the Shell Series from Jason Bright.

Canberra street circuit is tough, it has all of the bad points of Monaco with none of the good. It is so tight that passing is almost impossible. The track is rough, with lots of slow corners, and with a number of different surfaces to be the suspension engineers worst nightmare. Of course Canberra in June is cold. Trying to get temperature into the tyres and engines, particularly for the top 15 shootout is a major concern. Unlike Monaco their are no bikini clad nymphs sunning themselves on the foredeck of luxury yachts moored on the nearby water. Lake Burleigh Griffin is not quite the Mediterranean, the warmup on Sunday morning was delayed while the fog cleared.

The track has been widened in spots from last year and some sections have been resurfaced. Efforts have been made to address some of the concerns of spectators from last years first race.

Are Reverse Grid Races Still Needed?
It was a novelty last year and injected some interest into a series when HRT was a dominant force. Now that Ford have got their act together do they add anything for the spectators? Would people rather see the emerging Ford "Brat Pack" go head to head with TWR's five car team?

The teams and drivers don't like them, particularly around a street circuit with the next race only two weeks away across the other side of the continent at Barbagallo in Perth.

Blue Flags What Are They For?
After watching Anthony Tratt holding up Ambrose and Skaife when they were trying to lap him in race three I wondered what was the point of the flag marshal's frantic waving of the blue flag whenever this group of cars approached their flag
