Consistently Inconsistent

In the Ambrose case Skaife blew the start and Ambrose took the lead. As in all the other cases Ambrose moved to the right to protect his position going into the next corner. Then, once again as in the other cases, Skaife attempted to squeeze down the inside to retake first position. Contact was made and Skaife went did not turn for the corner or slow down and this forced more contact and eventually this pushed Ambrose off the track.

Contrary to all the other cases in this case the stewards decided that the car overtaking from behind into a narrow gap at the edge of the track had right of way. They gave Ambrose a drive through penalty and after the race they docked him 25 championship points.

This completely reverses the acceptable practice of how and where it is permissible to overtake that has been established by previous stewards findings. How must Paul Dumbrell feel when he gets severely punished for an overtaking move that the stewards consider justified when Skaife tries it and causes an accident?
