Barra's biting at Eastern Creek

No, this is not a Barramundi fishing story; Barra is the code name for Ford's new model BA Falcon.

Pirtek Racing's Marcos Ambrose led home an all Ford podium at the third round of the V8 Supercar Series at Sydney's Eastern Creek. Ambrose started from pole position and led the field into the first turn and controlled the race throughout the 77-lap journey. Ambrose was delighted with the result and is looking forward to being a serious title contender as he said "The BA is getting better and better, and I can't fault my team, they just want success after success and I'm keen to keep this thing rolling along."

Ford Performance Vehicle's Craig Lowndes was delighted to follow his round win at Phillip Island with second place. Lowndes was in a strong position early in the race, running second to Ambrose after battling his way past Greg Murphy. Then after the round of pit stops he had to challenge Jason Bright in the run to the flag, finally moving into second placeon lap 75 of 77. "We won at Phillip Island through strategy and our position today was also thanks to good team work," said Lowndes Rounding out the treble, Ingall battled his way from ninth on the grid to pass the Holden Commodores of Greg Murphy and then on the final lap, Jason Bright. "I guess I came here today still fuming a little over yesterday's run in the shootout, which I stuffed up," said Ingall. "I had a good think about it overnight and really convinced myself that 300km was a long way around this place. Defending series champion Mark Skaife and the Holden Racing Team had a day they would rather forget. Since Eastern Creek, the Team has been carrying out extensive investigations into the reasons behind the flat tyres suffered by both the Mark Skaife and Todd Kelly cars. Skaifes day went from bad to worse when dark clouds threatened rain and Skaife gambled on a change to wet tyres. Whe the rain didn't arrive Skaife had to pit once again to replace his burnt out wet tyres and go back to dry weather slick tyres, eventually ending up in 19th place. Despite fading in the closing stages Jason Bright stretched his championship lead to 45 points after hanging on for fourth place this afternoon. "Fourth was an okay result – we really should have finished third but lost out on the last lap," Bright said.
