Chrysanthemums and Tomatoes

We hear a lot these days of the way industrialised countries have removed many species of trees from the world. In my own State there are constant arguments about what should be done about the conservation of native forests. Many people love gardening, but, many people and large companies seek to remove whole forests from the earth.

A love of the land and of planting and of what goes into the earth could help to make the world more conservation minded. I have often wondered if that was what father had in mind. The village we lived in was in the middle of a vast industrial network of cotton mills. Believe me, the air we breathed was not conducive to a healthy life style. The plants survived.
