Socialisation of home educated children must be one of the main concerns for those new to homeschooling. There are hundreds of ways for children to socialise, and many would argue that the examples given in this article are much better than what school has to offer!
I once read of a homeschooled boy of six who said, "Mummy, children in schools learn by hearing and reading about things. I learn by doing things." It needn't cost a lot of money or time to experience things in our locale. It depends, of course, where you live as to what you can access for hands-on learning experiences, excursions and the like. Your local tourist centre may be a great place to research places and events for your list. Here are some ideas to get you thinking... Airports Antique Stores Aquariums Aquatic Centres Art Galleries Art classes Bali (don’t laugh – I know of a home ed. family who spent a few months there!) Ballet Ballet lessons Banks Beaches Belly dancing Bike Rides Blood Banks Botanic Gardens Bowling Alley Bridges and Jetties or Wharfs Bus trips Bush Cafes Camping Camps Caves Churches, Temples, Mosques etc. Cinema Circus Cities Clothing manufacturers Craft lessons Classes – in anything of interest, and not necessarily just those aimed at kids!
